Holiday !

I have been trying to get some of my Christmas decorations up ! I am scaling back from what I use to do , and this year my hope is to focus even more on what Christmas is really about ...the birth of our Lord & Savior ! This is from TruthMedia , a women's daily devotional , "Many are unfamiliar with the fact that our word "holiday" comes from an old English word whose original meaning was Holy Day . Though our secular society seeks to drain all that is holy from Christmas leaving little more than tinsel and toys, eggnog and elves, we can bring back a sense of sacredness to the holiday. You can click here to read the devotional entirely !

Hope everyone is having a creative and warm day !!!

The photo's are of a gift a friend gave me for Christmas. Oh Christmas Tree

Just got my tree up ! It is always the last thing I put up for the holidays , for starters I don't like the tree I have ( takes up too much room in my living room) I would like to get a different one , but I didn't get that accomplished yet , so .... it is still the same tree from the past years ! I have used the same ornaments also from the past years , some of them I will share. My children , even if they don't live at home anymore all prefer when I use the same ornaments from the past years , I guess it is a trip down memory lane instead of having a beautiful tree where everything matches and is updated !This is a little angel one of my children made many years ago , it gets put on the tree still every year !
Little body from a pompom and the wings are some gold leaves , was made in school ! The little crochet baskets , all are in white in various sizes, my mom made many years ago also ... she is 90 years old now !! I will always keep those as a treasure.
The next little decorations are some icicles that a friend gave me , made using beads.
And this is the tree ! Every year I always plan to change the colors , as I do not like gold , but for some reason it never gets changed !! So maybe next year ! Where my tree is I usually have a chair there next to a vintage hutch that my tv is in !
Last photo is of a distressed basket I have sitting on my kitchen floor ( by my water cooler , you can see it on the left side..not so pretty , but I use it all the time !) filled with various dolls I have made over the years .. lets just say , a long time ago ! The very top photo is of my most favorite Christmas decoration and it always sits on top of a vintage hutch in my living room . It is an old church that lights up with bottle brush trees and mica flakes all over it. I remember this when I was young always peering in the stained glass windows wondering what it would be like inside ! So after my mother downsized a lot of their decorations I claimed it as mine ! I hope you enjoyed the "tour" ! I am linking this to Funky Junk's Myyy Christmas Tree , a lot of wonderful Christmas trees to admire !

White Wednesday photos

I thought I would post a few of my photos I have taken around my home ! And include them in a White Wednesday! I have a shelf that is above my patio doors and is long , I have a collection of creamy white pottery on it , for winter I have filled them with greens and added some of my vintage silver with some of my favorite snowmen I made many years ago !!
An angel that sits in a grouping that a dear friend gave me.
The glass bottle snowman is a vintage bottle that I took from my parents farm & repurposed into a snowman , which I have some similar here.
And an all white ceramic winter angel under a glass dome that sits in a grouping on top of a cupboard in my kitchen ( don't know if you can see my silver pottery vase in the background with a tree in it.. one of my most favorite finds)

Hope you enjoyed the stroll !

Very Shabby Wreath

This is a wreath I made several years ago , made from two frames I had ( oh dear , just one of the many things I collect) ! So , I painted the frames in a creamy tone and distressed them slightly. Then I gathered up some various greens I had , and this is a trick I use to make my greens have a "snowy " look !
I use Plastic-Kote Fleck Stone spray paint ( I used Alabaster) and I ever so lightly spray my greens till I get a dusted look on them .
Let your greens dry and then gather together with wire and secure the greens on the frames. I also added a sheer ivory ribbon and a glass prism for some sparkle ... gotta have some sparkle ! I like to have one frame tillted to add interest , but you can position your frames in any order you like then all you need to do is hang ! I am linking this with A Soft Place To Land , and also at Mustard Seed Creation's Furniture Feature Friday ,so check out all of the other links for a lot of ideas for the Holiday's and more !

Christmas is Fast Approaching !

I have been very busy with getting projects finished and some orders done ! I can not believe it will be Thanksgiving this coming week . But looking forward to it also as all of my children & I will be getting together , which does not happen a lot , with six children getting every one's schedules to work together is not always easy , not to mention the miles in- between ! But everything worked out and we will all be on our way to a great get- together !

Above photo is of some Christmas things I have been working on , or have made ! Have a fabulous weekend !

A final note ! Be sure to go over to Room Remix (the blog) as they are having a giveaway ... a $35.00 gift certificate from Amazon , now can anyone ever have too many books ? So take a few min. and check out the blog , you will be so glad you did !

Is This Going Green ?

Just had to share one of my Christmas experiences !! My family was all gathered together and after a huge dinner we all sat down to share the gifts we brought ! One of my son's ( he is single , if this helps to explain some of this!) was passing out some gift cards to a restaurant as his gift for everyone ( easy and sure to please ...right ? ) after passing them out he states .... "everyone get one? " I said , no I didn't and he replied with , oh , I got you something else ! So he reached into his coat pocket and pulls out this "wrapped" gift !

I am thinking to myself ... half eaten chips ? Who knows what lies inside this package ! The ultimate in going green packaging I would have to say ! I really know that it is not his concern for going green , as it is usually far from his thoughts !Or better yet , a single guy that hates to wrap gifts is more like it !

So I reach in and feel something , pull it out & this is what was inside !!!

So how cool was that ! Now I can listen to all the tunes I love anywhere !! ( Thank you Josiah ! )

Oh Christmas Tree !!

Last evening I finally got my tree up !! Had all of my house decorated before Thanksgiving , just had the tree left to do ! My daughter encouraged me to get it up , because my granddaughter would love to have it up , she is 14 months old , she loves there tree ( she actually goes up to it and stretches her arms open and is "hugging" the tree !) , so here it is ! I use a lot of the same ornaments from all the previous years and it is sad , I create things , but my ornaments on my tree are all purchased or a lot of them have been gifts . If you see little tiny crochet baskets in white , my mom crochet those several years ago when she was still able to do that . I have a lot of them on the tree, some years I have filled them with florals , ect ! I still use the gold , which I would love to change to silver ... sometime !Also the icicles a friend made from beads , a little shimmer. I definitely do not go overboard !!! My tree is along a wall in my living room that is painted a chocolate brown , and that is a cupboard door in the way , sorry ... it is what my tv sits in and I should of closed it for the photo!

We are having a major blizzard at the moment , will be getting a ton of snow dumped on us and cold beyond anything !

Hope everyone is safe and warm !

Around My House !

I have to admit that I decorated most of my house before Thanksgiving this year ! One of my daughters and her family came & wanted me to have my Christmas decorations up as she never gets to see them as they live many miles away ! I have a white "bookshelf" in my kitchen that I change out for the seasons , and this is a little scene on the top shelf. A snowman that a friend gave me many years ago under a glass and metal container , also a dept 56 winter kitty another friend gave me ( as I love my kitties !) sits under another glass dome .

This is the top of a vintage cupboard I have had for many years , is in my living room . On top this year I put a small tree in a white metal container , lights covered by some sheer fabric and my favorite green wire basket filled with all vintage glass ornaments , also a white snow bear given to me by a friend with a huge clear glitter type ball sitting near the bear !

Hope everyone is having a fun holiday season , now Iam off to finish many of the projects I have going to list on Etsy !
